SEAT is the only company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), exporting 81% of its vehicles, and is present in over 80 countries through a network of 1,700 dealerships. In 2016, SEAT obtained an operating profit of 143 million euros, the highest in the history of the brand, and achieved worldwide sales of nearly 410,000 vehicles.

SEAT Group employs more than 14,500 professionals at its three production centres – Barcelona, El Prat de Llobregat and Martorell, where it manufactures the highly successful Ibiza and Leon. Additionally, the company produces the Ateca and the Toledo in the Czech Republic, the Alhambra in Portugal and the Mii in Slovakia.

The multinational has a Technical Centre, which operates as a knowledge hub that brings together 1,000 engineers who are focused on developing innovation for Spain’s largest industrial investor in R&D. SEAT already features the latest connectivity technology in its vehicle range and is currently engaged in the company’s global digitalization process to promote the mobility of the future.

2016 Highlights

SEAT al Sol

A sunny outlook: The ambitious SEAT al SOL (“SEAT in the Sun”) project launched in 2010 has now completed all of the installations planned for SEAT facilities and is fully operational. The commissioning of the final two plants in the project has added a total of 53,000 solar panels, which are installed on the roofs of the workshops and above the temporary vehicle storage areas. Covering an area of 276,000 m2, equivalent to 40 football fields, the solar plant at the Martorell plant is now the largest in the automotive industry worldwide. The facilities, rated at nearly 11 MW of nominal power and 12 MW of peak power, can generate up to 17 million kWh per year. This represents 17% of the annual energy required to manufacture the new SEAT Leon, with zero environmental impact. During 2016, the energy produced by SEAT al Sol reached 17.1 Million kWh.


Megatruck operating since April 2016. A long truck – length of more than 25m – with a maximal load capacity of 60 Tons which will bring savings of 22% in Transport costs and will reduce the CO2 emissions till 300 Tons per Year.

Social Responsibility Projects

During 2016 SEAT fostered its activities regarding to Social Responsibility, focused on three main fields:

  • Donations – Cars and parts for educational purposes to High Schools, Fundació El Trampolí,  Talita Foundation, Fight AIDS Foundation, Spanish Red Cross, San Juan de Dios Foundation.
  • Solidarity Campaigns among employees – Against Breast Cancer & Christmas campaigns.

ISO 14006 – Eco design certificate

SEAT has obtained the ISO 14.006 Eco design certificate. The company becomes the first enterprise in the automotive sector in Spain to be certified with this standard.

Top Employer 2016

During 2016 SEAT was awarded, for the second time in a row, with the Top Employer Award, with an Improvement of 35% in the official Rankings.
